I got seriously intrigued, as a 2dr Imperial is one of my white whales. The person handling the sale (a family friend of the late owner's widow; the car was ordered new by her father-in-law ) was very forthcoming with information, and I got a video call of everything I wanted, plus photos.

The car looks VERY solid, but I wonder how the humidity got to create the interior stains and mold without affecting the body or roof? In any event, I decided that the car was not for me -- but it has real potential IMHO.

Sweet car!!
Would the 999 be FE5 rally red?

Any mention of the Broadcast sheet?
At 28 large I would expect detailed pictures of that as well as all the paperwork that came with the car.

Nice car, but looking at the interior pics, price is optimistic, $10-12k as is.

Any mention of a broadcast sheet with this Imperial?

AND Y39 .

Oh my that's COOL!
I agree a very cool car indeed.I am a big fan of the 72-73 models .I have owned 3 over the years but no longer have.I am really starting to like the 69-71 models as well. They seem to be a bit more ornate in detail.Thid would be a neat car to own.

A weekend of cleaning and polishing and this Imperial would come up real nice, would stand out with the red/white combo. I'd volunteer to do it for nothing.

Sure is a filthy mold / mildew mess. It basically needs completely redone as the health risk of not getting rid of the damage could be serious. Was it really kept inside to get so moldy, especially on the headliner and other surface areas.

Even when parked inside an unheated garage, mold can happen.
If the car was under an el cheapo tarp the interior would not breathe and accelerate the mold process.
One of the reasons to use a quality car cover the breathes. Plus have a window cracked open and run a fan in the garage to move the air around.
You'l need PPE and hazmat suit to load er on a trailer!! Lol!!

What do K-VON and 999 mean? From inference, "999" means a custom-requested paint, is that right? Would they be able to actually sub-in a different colour on the assembly line, or would it have had to have been done "off-line"? Either way, it makes me long for the days of customization like that.

BTW saying "last of the land yachts" at 1971 is ridiculous. I hate "cruise night" mentality like that. There were plenty of "yachty" cars for years after!

K von is Y39 special order. Noted on the tag.

I don't think the factory would have taken the car off of the assembly line. More than likely it was just to show the painters that they needed to use the special color paint while it goes down the paint line.

I wasn't there and would like to hear from someone who is familiar with the actual process.

Y39 is "special order" denotation
K von is the same special order denotation

The broadcast sheet would give us more information about what the items were that were considered "special order".

The K von is also a police car denotation and can sometimes come with Y35 instead of Y39.

Look at this car I just posted. Two tag cop car with Y39 and K von.

From inference, "999" means a custom-requested paint, is that right?
@Turbo301 -- AFAIK, 999 is the paint code used when a car is painted a color that was not one of the standard choices that year. In this case, bright red.

Either way, it makes me long for the days of customization like that.
Not gone for all makes, though not cheap nowadays. Cue the many, many choices at BMW:
