Could anyone tell me what the difference is between a 65 to 67 383 compared to 68 and newer ? I have a 65 fury but the engine i have for it is a 67 383 when i look up parts like a top end kit from edelbrock it only covers 68 and up ?

Early ones have closed chamber with small exhaust valves 1.60 compared to 1.74. I think the push rods are different on early

I put an Erson cam in my '67 383. If I recall correctly, the '67 and older lifters are different. That limits your options a little on the lifters; meaning they were not as available from the aftermarket and I was not able to buy them as part of a complete cam kit. No matter, I bought a set of quality stock replacement lifters for '67 and older to put on the aftermarket camshaft.

The camshaft itself will interchange just fine through the various years of the B and RB engine.

You can change lifters over and just get 68 up pushrods one end is smaller on the 67 and earlier pushrods, if cam change is intended.

Thanks for your input. I was also wondering if all 383 's use the same spark plugs ? My 67 didn't have any plugs with it.

I guess i had that coming it was a dumb question, the reason i ask is i looked up some E3 spark plugs on there website and it said use E3.52 plugs. I looked them up on amazon and they said they dont fit your car ?

Amazon is wrong.
Why dont you just buy Champions in the first place.

I used to use Autolite exclusively and never had any issues. I have, in the not too distant past, tried Motorcraft and AC Delco with zero complaints. I have heard lots of bad stories about Champion plugs so I have never used them. I just stick with what has worked for me.
Travis..

I have ran champion plugs in my 69 sport fury convertible 383 for 31 trouble free years I have 550,000 miles on my car and I have a bit of a heavy foot. Translation: I really like to push it when I'm on the road , to the point my wife stays home on most occasions now.

It just happens. Your driving down the highway and BAM The Hollies Tall Cool Woman in a Black Dress starts to play and then the car shoots to 90 MPH with the roof down and next thing you know your in Calgary at a mopar show.

Don't forget the Peters Drive in stop on the way home....

IF YOU PUT 68 AND LATER LIFTERS IN A EARLY BIG BLOCK YOU WON'T HAVE ANY OIL PRESSURE.early lifters have a small grove cut around them. latters have a wide grove in them.early lifters are very, very expensive, about 2 bills a set if you can find them. summit told me american standard only made them. i bought a cam kit from them for my 66 but it had the wrong lifters in it. they sold me the right lifters at there cost and they were $14. APIECE

Dave: I just now saw this post. . . Does this issue also apply to the early '66 440 engines? As you may know, I'm having one rebuilt, and it will have a new cam and lifters.

I use 68 and later lifters and pushrods in my -66 383 with perfect oilpressure and no issues.
