Hi. I am researching an adventurer a friend owns. Were these cross rams from factory? 383? His is 413 with dual quads in line. I think his engine is from a later car.....?

Looks like the factory 2x4 set-up. I suspect the cross-rams were Chrysler 300 Letter Car items only? The Letter Cars had to be the most powerful, as a "pecking order" sort of thing. Google can be your friend in this venture.

Update -- A 7 page section on 1960 DeSotos at www.wildaboutcars.com does mention and illustrate the 2x4 crossram set as the "Ram Charge" engine option.

Chrysler’s were the only car with a 413 in 1960-1961. Those inline carbs didn’t come on a 1960 anything.

Desoto, Dodge and Plymouth’s all were available with long ram 361 and 383 engines in 1960-1961.

This Desoto would have been ram induction B engine if it was a factory dual quad. The inner fender wells don’t have the bolt in panels on them so it looks like this car was not a dual carb car originally.

Lads --
In 1961, the 413 was available as a "dealer installed option" and both NASCAR and the NHRA OKed it. Using this loophole, the Pettys ran 413 Plymouths on the NASCAR circuit and the Ramchargers had a Dart Pioneer that they took to the NHRA Nationals in Detroit where they ended up beating the top stock eliminator in a grudge match. The Petty's did have some problems as I think the aerodynamics of the "flipped" fins in the rear led to them being unstable in turns. Both Lee and Richard crashed and Lee was injured so bad he didn't want to drive again. At any rate, a few 413s found themselves in '61 Darts and Plymouths.
