It looks to be rock solid! Very kool, I like it. You couldn't restore one to look as good for even half the current bid.

it was at spring carlisle......asking price was 22,500

hey, i'm the high bidder on that right now! can't afford his price but i figured wth, why not help run it up.

A very nice Fury! Ross, did you see any rust issues on the car? I see a few areas around the drivers door and the front fender.

But that's how deals happen. You shoot and see if the victim falls....

The rockers, lower quarters, wheel lips look a bit suspicous. Nice car but I'd recommend personal inspection. Bondo can sometimes last remarkably long as well.

I suspect there might be a lot of bondo on this car. And it appears to be fairly fresh undercoating too.

Does appear to have had some body work done.... The trunk and floor pans are the important areas on these cars. Exterior sheet metal is not tough to fix.
I would think that $22,500. would be a fair price for this car concidering how well it is equipped. I wish mine had the 361 engine. I would guess the reserve to be $20,000.

Mark.... It would be just about too much if you ended up with a car almost identical to mine......:occasion14: I never thought i'd see another one like it.....

Will, what engine to you have in yours?

Mines a 318 auto. This car is equipped very similar to mine with P/s, P/b, P/w, P/s, optional all vinal interior, aero wheel, dash pad. My car also has all tinted glass and the headlight dressup trim package,
It's really unusual for 61 Plymouths to be so heavily optioned. Most, even the high end Furys were basic strippers.

How far are you on the restoration?

I stand around and look at it a lot...... Even started it today.....

Really though....... It's in the planning stage. I'm figuring out where to source some of the things that need to be done, interior panels, steering wheel, dash pad, chrome..etc.
I don't like to start on a project until i'm prepaired to follow it through without a lot of delays.
Restoring a 61 Plymouth is nothing like restoring a B or C body..... LOL. No one makes ANYTHING for these cars. I'm fortunate my car is so complete and in pretty good shape. Almost everything can be repaired or refurbushed.
It's one of the reasons I went for it.

I was thinking today that I may just insure and regester it and start driving it.... Patima seems to be in vogue these days.

Best thing to do to keep the mechanicals in movement from time to time; most always did it that way if the car is safe to operate and it's not going to be a fix-it-up-some-time object where interest vanes with every day it is tucked away.

But you done more than enough to know for yourself.

Your right about that. I drove the car 180 miles home and I think it was the best thing to happen to the car in a long time. It now starts, runs and drives great.
I located a local spring shop that will re-arch my leaf springs to get the slight "sag" out of it. Then some mufflers, (previous owner had a new set of dual straight pipes installed, no mufflers, on it..... sounds like crap).
I also located a full matched set of the correct 14" steel wheels with decent tires and original wheel covers. I need to replace the plastic rear window. The original is no longer transparent and I hate using the drift and listen for horns method of changing lanes.

I have performed many....many restorations through the years and am pretty familure with the procedure. A little planning makes for a smoother project. Good to have certain things in place when needed.
I get very passionate about the process and don't tire of it, (mentally anyways). I wish I still had some of the energy of some of the young guys here.

I'm happiest building a car.... Once it's done it becomes a maintainance issue.... Not my thing.

My thing is rather searching for good unrestored diamonds in the rough, finding the right compromise to considerably improve the overall appearance with leaving as much of the original parts, paint etc. intact. This work is enough "to make the car mine" and I gratefully lean back to mostly maintenance work afterwards.
Did one rather extensive resto and to me the advantage of this car is that it is about like back in the day as it only needs maintenance, while the other partially restored cars constantly need some more work from time to time.

Will, is it in good enough condition to bring it to Carlisle?

I wouldn't be afraid to drive it to Carlisle....... But i'm REALLY looking forward to the trip in Jazebelle..... Maybe a tow bar.....? LOL.
Besides...... I might tempted by someone with an "offer"...... I don't want to think about letting loose of the 61 just yet.

I like those too....... Good luck finding a 61 Fury convertible thats nice enough to leave original. This car has been high on my "gotta have one" list for a long time.... Since dad wouldn't let me buy one back in 1965.... It was black.. red/white interior and a black top. His rational was...." If it rolls over... you'll die".

I will be thrilled to see either car.

I have an idea.........have your wife drive Jezabelle and you drive the '61.
