Offered here is a very unusual 1966 Plymouth Fury VIP four door no post sedan. It started life with a 383 Commando engine and had a monster 440 built and installed into it. This 440 features a pair of Edelbrock aluminum performer heads, Harlan-Sharp rocker arms, an Edelbrock aluminum intake and new 750cfm 4 bbl carb. In addition it was also built with a fully machined block bored .030 over, Keith Black pistons & hi performance connecting rods, a forged crank, Mopar windage tray, a Comp 21-223-4 camshaft with matching pushrods & lifters as well as a high volume oil pump, a new performance water pump, an all aluminum radiator (and all hoses) and a new Chrysler electronic ignition and competition spark plug wires. The compression ratio is 10.1 and the engine was blueprinted and balanced. It also features a full TTI exhaust system from the long tube header exhaust manifolds back to the 3” pipes and matching mufflers. The horsepower and torque are both way north of 500.
In addition to the engine, the transmission is a performance built 727 with a moderate high stall torque converter attached to a gear vendors 3 speed overdrive unit. That unit effectively turns this car into a 6 speed. The differential I believe is a 3:55 ratio 8 3/4 Mopar.
The performance results are astonishing! The acceleration is simply brutal! You actually shift the overdrive with the floor button for the headlight dimmer switch and this gives you a quickness which I would compare to a competition street/race car. This is the biggest sleeper I have ever owned or seen and the acceleration is actually shocking (especially for a car this big and heavy). As you see from the pictures, it looks like a grandpas car. It’s amazing how fast is actually is!
The rest of the car (as you can see) is decent. The paints not perfect but good and pretty attractive. The interior is also serviceable... not perfect but comfortable and not all ripped up. The chrome and trim are presentable but again not perfect. The dash does has cracks in it as shown in the pics. The instrumentation is really very good as is the interior chrome. It is not a show car by any stretch! But I’m not representing it as such. It drives amazingly well and is manageable under normal circumstances. The car was originally ordered with upgraded suspension and it does have bigger springs, HD torsion bars and a front sway bar. Not a sports car but it handles better than I expected.
In addition to all the engine and transmission work the car has all the brakes just redone and the ride and handling are surprisingly good. The car was built for fun and it is a lot of fun.
The car is located in a warehouse near Hagerstown and has always been garage kept. It was a South Carolina car (where I bought it) and is therefore a near rust free car. The original owner spent over $25,000 buying and building the car. If you total up the engine, trans, overdrive, exhaust and related items the cost of mechanicals and machine work is over $20,000!
If your interested in seeing the car, please call Dave and I can arrange to meet you. This is a cash deal only and I don’t need help selling the car and I’m not interested in trades or partial payments. Please don’t waste your time if your a scammer. I know who you are...
I’m not going to allow test drives on this car because of the power this car has and the potential liability. So please don’t ask. I can take you out if you want to see how it runs and drives but nobody else is going to drive it. Thanks for your understanding on this.
Please don’t hesitate to call if you have any questions. My name is Dave. Thanks for your interest. The price is firm.
