66 Fury Headlight switch

I've a 66 Fury III in which I'm replacing the headlight switch (the dimmer is broken). I've got the instrument cluster out to access the switch and unplugged the wiring harness, but I can't get the switch to release from the control knob. I've pressed down on the release button on the switch assembly and tried with the knob in every position, but it won't release. Pressing the switch and prying with a screwdriver as a lever didn't work either. Anyone gone through this before? If so, how did you get the switch assembly out?

Pull on the knob and then press the release button. Sometimes you need to wiggle the shaft around to get it tio disengage.

Pull out to headlights on position, then press button down and pull out. If not working then push knob in slightly. They can get sticky, but do come out.

I got it squared away; thanks for the advice. The FSM seems to imply that the switch would slide off from the shaft, which is what was confusing me
