I’m getting this parts car 4dr Lebaron 68 imperial in.
seller sent me some pics.
Has an under dash 8 track.
Looks to be some kind of Chrysler dealer installed unit?
I have never seen one like this?
Have any of you guys?

I’ll have to check the data book I can’t remember seeing one. It stands out that this is a LeBaron without tilt/tele, auto pilot & sentinel lighting.

Being a thumbwheel, it would be a factory option or listed in the 68 accessory catalogue.
68 was the first year 8 track was available in Mopars.

Many first-year-option stereo 8-tracks were add-on under-dash units, as pictured. But unless the instrument panel could be easily modified or the instrument panel was new that year, then they were unified into the radio itself. BUT the units were still in the factory dealer accessories catalog.

It does look nice under there.

Yes, a few, but sadly sold off several boxes and player some years back, a fantastic collection of Rock tapes, Hendrix, Stones, rare.

I have three players total, one not working in '70 W300 dash, looks near original, a DOA unit of eBay with Kraco cassette adaptor that works, and another I have checked out in '74 IHC stepvan.

Wondering who made the Chrysler unit, and was it USA made, or Japan?

I have a James Brown greatest hits 8 track.
Some pics of 68 parts car. Has passenger mirror I will snag for coupe. No M/T but a bunch of parts in trunk

I was surprised by the lack pf options on this LeBaron as well. My Crown has more options than this.

As far as the 8-track tape player, it is indeed a FACTORY option, shown on both the build sheet and the window sticker (427). It does use the thumb wheels like a Chrysler, but the face plate is Bronze, matching the rest of the interior trim on '68 Imperials.

Oh, and mine actually still works, even though the sound quality is not the best.
