68 Polara wagon gas cap issue

I just recently replaced the twist on gas cap for my Polara wagon. The old cap was a little dry rotted and beat. I found that when the car has been run, then parked, there is a small gas leak from the tank with the new cap. When I loosen it you can hear the pressure release, then the leak stops. I went back to the old cap for the time being. Has anyone experienced this before? I assume it may be leaking from the sending unit seal and I had just filled the tank to capacity. The replacement cap purchased is a Gates 31646.

You need a non vented gas cap for your wagon. The pressure release that you hear is because the tank can’t suck in any air to replace the gas that the engine is sucking down.
