I have been looking into getting my wheel restored (recast) and trying to understand the demand.

Might be able to get a better deal if there are more out there needing them

The price seams to be about $2200

This is a good sample that I have but the wrong color

Where did you get that quote, and how did the price break down? I have a translucent wheel that I am considering getting restored and found this website: Chrysler Steering Wheels - Quality Restorations,Inc . It is one color versus what looks like 2 on your wheel. Haven't gotten serious enough about it to get prices yet though. Mine is like this wheel but for a tilt-tele column, and in red. 200_Chrysler_65_3_.jpg

I talked with Quality Restorations about doing this wheel, first I got “painfully expensive” and after some prodding they said $4000-$6000 with tooling.

This other company is willing to cover the tooling if there is a market for it.

I think I'd learn how to cast the wheel myself before paying those prices!:steering:

If you are desirng a full re-cast rather than a filler/sand/paint situation, those prices might be reasonable.

When I did my CHP car Quality Restoration charged $1200 for a recast single color wheel from a mold they already had. Every mold is at least 2 half depending on the complexity of the part. This wheel will require at least three 2 part molds. Is the price to make molds a little high? No idea but most are not wiling to take a chance on something they may never do again. Its a hard sell but this company seams to be open to taking the chance.

$1500 for a recast on average....+- ! Helps if they already have the mold.

Quality quoted me in the neighborhood of $2k for my translucent red metal flake wheel that's the same in post #2. When he broke down the cost to me, it makes sense. Stripping, rechrome, polishing, casting, etc. When the time comes, I'll have him do both of my cars. He seems busy enough to pass on wheels that he doesn't currently have tooling for though.
