Question - in 1970 (Sport Fury GT with disc brakes specifically) was the master cylinder painted from the factory ? I've heard that the booster and master were painted at the same time, but with most cars seen today, the master has been replaced at some point, tossing originality out the window.

    What say you ?

So if I don't have that booster combo, then the master was bare cast ?

On a '70 SFGT with power disc brakes, the booster will always be painted flat black (Matte) and will always be a Bendix dual diaphragm type. In most cases, the factory painted the booster and master and together as noted above prior to assembly on the car and in most cases the green vacuum valve was also painted black as the valve was installed prior to painting the unit. If you some other type booster, it is not correct for the application. The aftermarket master cylinders have a slightly different profile and are not painted. Original equipment master cylinders went obsolete at least twenty years or so ago, so you may have difficulty locating one of those units. If you are building the car as a show vehicle, having the right master cylinder on it is a must. Otherwise, on a driver for example, you can paint it or not paint it as the aftermarket unit will still not be correct.
