very high idle on cold startup , goes to normal after warmup and all warm starts .if warm and you touch gas pedal hard start or wait any ideas? tks

its my understanding that you dont touch the gas when starting a fuel injected car warm or cold......

PLUS . . . ensure that the air cleaner is positioned correctly on the throttle body AND the band clamp around the air cleaner top is positioned correctly and snug. The mass air flow sensor is in the snorkel, so that when the top of the air cleaner is removed, all of the incoming air will not go through the snorkel, which means the signal from the MAF is gone, which tells the computer the engine is not running, so the engine stops. If the top of the air cleaner is cock-eyed, it also decreases the air coming in through the snorkel, which affects the fuel curve, and makes things not work right.

Almost ALL of the EFI controls are on the air cleaner "plate". Quite compact by comparison to other EFI systems. The "spray bar" on the top of the throttle body has a primary and secondary side to it, depending upon engine load and rpm. It is a unique system, by observation, although it has many similarities to later throttle body EFI systems.

The observed issue is that the system was designed by Chrysler Aerospace and went into production VERY quickly after it was designed (also done quickly and more of a compacted unit). At a time when Chrysler didn't have a lot of money to spend on it, but EFI was necessary to compete in that luxury car market back then. Just a fancy way of atomizing fuel in an existing engine situation, to me. Definitely not as bullet-proof as the later GM throttle body EFI units, by observation.

There should be a downloadable document on the system, somewhere. Possibly at www.mymopar.com (MasterTech Service videos). Also information at: web.imperialclub.info/Repair/Year/1981-1983/EFIGeneral.htm and www.fourforty.com/imperial/81-83.html . The ImperialClub page was last updated in 2001. The Fourforty.com page has a general overview of those Imperials plus some graphics of the EFI/emissions system.

Just some thoughts,

just stared car no touch peddle no Hi idle tks

My factory carb converted 81 has developed a high/fast idle that sometimes just won't settle down. Fun at the stoplights but sucks on the highway.
