Aftermarket brake light switch

Trying to replace brake light switch on my 65 sport fury with aftermarket switch. I removed the bracket and got the old switch off but cannot figure how to install the new one. How does the metal clip lock the switch on the bracket? the original did not have this clip.

My 64 NY didn't have that metal clip either. I left it off, it sits in their snug for me and the pushrod keeps it there as well. Hasn't been a problem.
