My conclusion is this: Maybe the coil wire came loose at some point? Another suggestion is the blaster coil and 6al are too much for the 7mm wires. Any thoughts from collective intelligence that is fcbo?? This happens a block from home after a 100+ mile trip lol.

no info here.

yikes, glad it was just the wire and dist cap that melted

Not so unusual it hasn't been seen before... you had a poor connection in the cap or coil wire to cap... there was an arc there that did all that damage.

Corrosion could have been a factor too. Don't worry about replacing anything that isn't burnt yet, but be critical of any carbon tracks on the coil as they are a sign that it arced too. Cap, rotor, wires for sure, maybe plugs, when running again spray with a mist of water around the coil... if it arcs you need one of those too.

The problem with a higher power than stock ignition is you are balancing spark intensity with spark duration. If it was running good with no ping, I would just replace the parts... If you make a change you may easily affect drivability.

Agreed cantflip! I replaced the the bad coil wire and cap, the rotor and everything else looked good and once I had the firing order correct it fired right up. BUT for the 1st time while at idle the temp hit 220. I don't think this is related but why suddenly the spike in temp after a couple hundred miles of running fine. I've let it idle for 20 mins before with no issue....grrrr the luck of the Irish I tell ya!!
