B and C body leaf springs

Hi all, new here with my first ever C-body.

I recently purchased a 67 Fury III wagon. It has new leafsprings but it looks like a previous owner wanted to lower the car. I want to use it to haul and tow. It has air shocks in it now but I had to fill them all the way just to get an even ride height. I have leaf springs in my 65 Belvedere wagon that I had rebuilt and re-arched. Would I be able to swap them? Are the measurements the same? Since both cars had them done recently, it would be easy to swap out since the hardware isn't all rusted out. It's all new on both wagons.

Best place to look in the FSM for spring lengths.

I checked and it looks like the '67 is 59" and the '65 is 58" long. So, at first blush, I'd say no.

It would depend on where that inch is lost, so some time with a tape measure might be in order.

How about swapping the main leaf between the rebuilt springs?

BTW, I'm not a fan of re-arched springs, so IMHO, I'd buy the right springs from ESPO and be done with it. YMMV.

I agree. I had a set of springs re-arched for my challenger and it was not long before they turned back into old saggy springs.
Money and time wasted…

This is what I will be attempting with some springs. I’m parting a 63 300 413 car with the 6 stack HD springs. I’m going to use a shorter main leaf from a 61 Plymouth 5 stack to see if I can combine the two to make a decent set of original HD springs for a 61 Plymouth. Im not doing so to save $,I just like the look of the grooved original Springs. I will let you guys know how (if) it works out

You could add a few of the intermediate leaves from the '65 to give it more height and weight capacity, but that would cripple the Bell. Unless it's a dead donor, that might work. Just need bigger leaf clamps which could be had from the local parts store or online for not much $. Cheaper than new springs anyway.

I know a lot of folks frown upon air shocks & coilovers, the upper shock mount isn't designed to be load bearing and could deflect up onto (or even thru) the floor. Be that as it may, it's your car to do as you wish. Just something to consider.

Swapping the main leaf could be the answer. I might try that.

Probably a little measuring from the center bolt on the other leaves would confirm that will work. I'll bet everything is close enough.

BTW, we used to use cars like this as tow cars back in the 70's all the time. They always worked out really well. We also used the class III hitches with the load bars to make up for the tongue weight.

The critical measurement is from the front mounting bushing, to the locator bolt for the rear axle. Since both cars have different wheelbases, they probably won't match up.

For what it's worth, I do use air shocks as well as ladder bar shackles on my 73 Newport, because my leaf springs are sagging bad. Now while I do admit to using air shocks, I limit the pressure to 20 psi. Between the shackles and the shocks, it gives me the height & ride quality I want, at least until I can afford new springs with the 2" lift. I don't drive it much, it's lucky to see 100 miles a month, just a weekend cruiser. But it's a crutch for now until I can afford better.

Dimension A is critical to ensure the rear axle will locate properly vs the wheelbase.
Dimension B ensures the rear shackle will swing properly.

Years ago, out of necessity, I installed 22x35 springs from a Cordoba in a 65 Fury, which is to have 22x36.
When I jack the car up by the frame the relaxation in the spring causes the shackle to swing forward and pop up to the trunk floor. So I must remember to chain the shackle rearward beforehand. (a longer shackle might solve this, but that's generally a piss-poor addition to a leafspring setup)
If I forget and the shackle pops, it's a royal PITA with crowbars and slowly lowering the car with the jack to get it to reset, it's a 3-handed job.

I just called and 67-70 Fury is awaiting shipment from their vendor, and was told they do not have a date yet, could be a few months.
Sources would be US, Mexico, India, Indonesia.
While not China, I'd prefer a shorter list of sources to ensure good QC assurance. (but maybe this seller has that under control, who knows?)
