I've been getting my '67 Monaco back into shape over the past 2 years so maybe there's something in the brake system that I still need to tweak (although it has new master cylinder) - but I do have a short bungy cord to pull the brake pedal back up all the way. I don't think it pulls it much vs not having it - maybe 1/2 inch (haven't measured it). I might have mentioned this somewhere here in the past and the word was that these cars did not have an actual return spring - and none should be needed?

Anyways, I'm dismantling my '73 Satellite and what do I see under the steering column - a return spring! It looks to be original.

Comments?

As far as I know (I could be wrong), there is no brake pedal return spring on power brake C body cars, only on manual brake C body cars. Which do you have?

The master cylinder is supposed to have an integral return spring for the piston.

68 Fuy here, manual drums had no return spring and It does not look like there was a way to hook it up.

Has discs now and no spring.

My '67 is 4 wheel drum power brakes, always has been. Maybe the adjustment rod behind (or in) the booster is out of adjustment (too short?). It just seemed easier to help the pedal come back up with a bungy cord. I think some times the brake lights were sticking on. But I find it interesting that this return spring setup was used in the '73 Satellite.

Is the spring that's supposed to be in the MC visible in any way? There's usually a little tab that keeps the piston from popping out - yes?

Several years ago I sent my booster out to Booster Dewey for a rebuild. It brakes fine, but my pedal doesn't come up right away when you take your foot off the brake. It probably takes 3-5 seconds.
