Was it possible to leave the 'eat seat' er arm rest in the back? I always liked them and you never see them in a convertible.

Thanks !!! I’m pretty happy with the results so far.

    That’s the front yard Lol!!!

My neighbors are pretty cool but think I’m crazy. I’ve done motors , transmissions, paint jobs (everything but the paint) out front. My one hard no exceptions rule is no noise after 830. I think that’s what’s kept me in business all these years. Late night thrashing makes for angry villagers.

No way on earth. I know what you mean and that was my original plan.
I would’ve had to cut my seat frame weld in the support brackets and then there’d be almost no real seat
left between the top of the armrest and bottom of the speaker channel. Not too mention it would probably kill the middle seat passenger in a minor accident. It’s kinda scary to look at all the knives and hatchets under that thin layer of foam & upholstery.

The armrest would’ve been cool but no rear channel & speaker faceplate was a deal breaker for me. That convertible rear seat really makes the interior of the car.

Another factor to consider is my rear seatback is maybe 20 - 35 pounds about the weight of a small child. That imp seat was like picking up Andre the Giant. It was incredibly heavy 3 or 4 times the weight maybe more.

This seat was sitting there daring me to try and set it in there.

Pulled tons of crap out from under the seat including a empty bottle of tranny fluid. I found my mysterious drip maker Lol!!!

    Then this happened!!!

    FCA8F0AE-1C06-49BD-832F-05389C45F6E0.jpeg

This SOB had a floor bolt broke free of the seat frame and just spun and spun.

    FA53EC59-9045-47DE-9268-D2AA7B2A93E5.jpeg

It tried its best to end my project before it even started.

    8577E9FE-B34A-42B5-989E-463FC902B283.jpeg

Had to unbolt the bottom frame rail from the bench seat so i could get to the spinning bolt from hell.

    A01D8B8E-FB27-4486-9E3C-54363DB6DC57.jpeg

In the end it was much ado about nothing. The bolt had a tiny little nut on it so I just pulled the whole damn thing thru the floor. It didn’t really do anything to the hole in the floor. Boy I got real lucky on this fiasco.

Now I got a fresh playing field to work with...

    312A5ED6-2BE8-4E81-ABFB-FF96DC3F331D.jpeg

You would think now would be a good time to “paint” the carpet but that would be a big mistake. First you’d have to wait for it to dry. Then you’d get covered in all the tiny black paint glitter that would come off the carpet. Too big a hassle so skipping that for now...

    08F9F2FB-B66E-4EA7-94B3-ACE37BFD5C7B.jpeg

R2D2 my free out by the trash cans shop vac came in real handy and is still going strong. No idea why someone threw him out...

    56FDFBCF-9D3E-4533-9F37-D5D05BF0D7DB.jpeg

Now if any of you guys never put buckets in a bench car before it’s not as hard as you’d think. If you know a few tricks...

    FE24A010-72C1-4B69-8108-7FBF3E90F6AA.jpeg

Make a cardboard template and punch the bolt pattern thru it. This is a fool proof way of locating the new holes you must drill.

    59A5B7B7-5B34-41A8-A695-3E2F03A345CB.jpeg

Make sure you mark it. This side front. This side forwards etc etc. don’t laugh I’ve forgotten carrying these the five steps over to the floor boards Lol!!!

Here’s the other stuff you need to make this work.

    14E90F80-4723-44F7-A52A-919BE534AA02.jpeg

You run these threaded studs up thru the floor holes from underneath and then use the lock washer off the seat rail to lock them in place, straight up. Then you lay the cardboard over the studs and stick the pencil thru trying to be as straight up and down as possible. Then mark your spot w a dime. Think golf marker Lol!!!

    Did it work ?????

That my friends is what an undrilled pilot hole looks like. If you get lucky they will be there to guide you. Thank Mother for going that extra mile and stamping those critters.

See how close my dime marker was to the sweet spot. This helps a lot if there is no pilot hole. I’ve had bad luck trying to find these in B bodies.

    3E6B6B4F-A888-4A85-BA16-A46D3A172B73.jpeg

This is a real good way of getting your new holes as close to plumb as possible.

One other thing I do is after the holes are drilled. I use welder chalk to X marks the spot. Just makes the dang hole jump out at you. They disappear in the carpet.

You can see the new seat holes are exactly where they need to be in that channel. Good times.

Funny thing is I didn’t touch the power seat stuff. It’s not hooked up and now it never will be. The seat is perfectly positioned for me. Pure Good Luck !!! They sit a tiny bit lower than my Split bench but you’d never notice if you’re sitting in it for the first time.

Headrest is only part above the belt line. Again that’s absolutely perfect.

The wife came out and LOVED the fact that the passenger seat fully reclines. It’s sure nice when the better half is as excited as you are about fixing these dudes up. I’m pretty lucky in that regard.

I’ll post pics tomorrow in the sunshine. The seats look super dark in the garage. To be continued...

Very lucky, and good that you recognize it...

Now that you've made the seats so nice, you're going to continue to find more stuff that needs to be made better... this could turn into a redo if you aren't careful... :poke::D

Why not hook up the power seats? All you'd need is a hot wire and ground. The rest is all there. Would be awesome. And you could raise them up a tad.... Just sayin'
