Cars that made you want one

My dad bought a used '68 Fury III in the spring of '71 when I was almost 9 years old. I went with him to look at it and take it for a test drive. Four door sedan, burgundy with a black top & interior and skirts. It was such a classy looking car my mom didn't think they could afford it. I used to sit behind the wheel and pretend I was driving. The dash lit up at night was cool. Sadly he had to junk it in '77 because the frame was rotting away due to the Pittsburgh winters. I had hoped to learn to drive that car but it wasn't meant to be. I bought mine 5 years later when it had just arrived in Pittsburgh from North Carolina and the owner wanted a smaller, fuel efficient car. Lucky me!

I never wanted any cars i saw on tv

I've liked cars ever since I was about 4 years old when I saw a big blue car, was so awestruck by it I asked my mother what it was; a Packard!
My current and ongoing love of all things Imperial (and Letter 300s) began when I purchased a Complete History of Chrysler Corporation book back in the mid to late 80s.

Really? You’ve never, ever been channel surfing around or watching a program you like and said to yourself, “that’s a good looking car, I might enjoy owning one like that.” ?

This would apply to most modern tv shows.

Those "Smoky and the Bandit" movies still make me smile. As do the Rockford re-runs.

Other than our '56 Savoy and my uncle's '55 Belvedere, they bought a new '63 Polara 2-dr ht and all six of us went to CA in it, in the summer of '63. Disneyland, Vegas, and all. Normal 318, TF, PS, PB, with Chrysler's dealer-installed a/c. I was amazed at how well it ran. How throttle responsive it was off-idle. It just went without any drama, period.

Then we got the '66 Newport Town Sedan when it was a year old and had 7100 miles on it. We were in "high cotton" with that car. That's the car I finished learning to drive in. Took my driver's test in. And learned how to modulate power brakes in. Great learning experiences with that car. I then took it to college and drove it to my first job after college. Still have it in dry indoor storage.

In the '60s, when our families were younger, it was not uncommon for yearly holiday get-togethers to be mostly family reunions. Always interesting to see who was driving what and who had bought what since we last saw them. One of my uncles said that he'd been told that "Once you drive a Chrysler, you won't "go back"". And that's how we've been every since.

Great memories!

The first Mopar I ever laid eyes on besides our 87 Turismo. I never had a chance.

I´m another member, who wanted a car that was not seen on TV.

As a kid I was coming home from a cruise to Sweden and someone imported a 69 Imperial LeBaron 4d ht to Finland via the same cruise ship. I can´t remember anything else than the cruise really turned around in Sweden and that certain car, which was B9 with V1B and MSD e.g. Midnight Blue with a blue vinyl top and dark blue leather seats. Bang - I decided to get a Fuselage Imperial some day while drooling at the longitudinally straight and endless body sides, the wonderful front end with the hidden headlights, gill-like side markers and loop bumper and the sequential rear turn signals.

The worst thing is that I´ve never seen the blue 4dr ``in flesh`` nor even on pictures.

Even though I was quite a lot leaning towards the 72-73 right after purchasing the current one, the next could well be a 69-71 let alone that I´d like to get a 2dr.

Nope, i i would say hey nice car, glad it's not mine. I cannot and will not afford it

My stepdads dad bought a "leftover" 1967 Fury II. The dealer gave him a 1968 Fury brochure. My stepdad when he was maybe about 15 or 16 was looking through the 1968 brochure. He was flipping through the pages and "stumbled" upon this...

He said to himself "I want that". One day he was at a gas station with a friend filling up his 1970 Buick station wagon. His friend (FURYGT knows him), went to get a soda or something. He came back and said, "I think I found the car you're looking for". The 68 Sport Fury Fast-top was For Sale on the side of the gas station building. My stepdad bought this (below) in about 1980 and had it ever since. It was his first ever C-body.

Very nice! That’s the the kind of story I was looking for.

Let the flaming begin...

For me, this is the ultimate Ferrari. James Colburn's California Spyder.

And it all started here....

The day Dad brought this car home, Polara Dave was born ...That was the winter of 75/76 . He paid $1,000. for the Polara at Black Horse Dodge , 318/904 . No air, power steering and disc brakes, am radio. I've had 8 Polaras since

That's the year I enlisted in the Army. Lol

I actually bought the cars I dreamed about.....

My Dad had 3 Mopar wagons with 440's in the 1960's and early 1970's. All of us kids had nice Mopar's since we were 16.

My first car was a rust free low mileage 69 Bee that I bought in 1971 for $1750 and then I traded it in on a brand new 73 Ralleye Challenger with a 340.
