In the 70's and very early 80's I used CB radios as I was driving from Texas to Boston and back kinda often. I liked driving at night ,late at night with no traffic ,cool temps my 72 Fury III liked. Passed the time talking to guys and having some interesting and hilarious conversations! Been driving back and forth to work recently in crazy traffic and was next to this beautiful big rig with one CB antenna on each rear view mirror and he was chatting with someone laughing and very animated on his CB radio. I thought that looks like fun and sure beats listening to the news or shit music. Anyone use a CB radio for amusement? Or is it just a dinosaur??

I think it's a dinosaur for most cars and light duty trucks today, but I plan on having one in my '72 W200 when it gets roadworthy. Just for the reasons you mentioned, it might be fun while cruising down the highway. That and I bought three of them, so I might as well use one!

Not very much. I have to say, though, it is busier than many amateur radio bands. Plus, real time traffic including where the cops are hiding.

I jokingly told my wife I was going to put a 102” stainless whip on the Fury and she was not amused.

I got a factory CB/AM/FM antenna to go in the truck. I blame this site for being year, or period correct factory goodies. Now I have to drill a hole in a perfectly good fender.

I'm not sure but I'd guess with cell phones, digital communications and global GPS it may be a thing in the past for practical reasons. However, I'm sure it's still out there, have fun with it!

I just need two other vehicles from the mid 70's, and I'd have three equipped with the CB combo. Thankfully that won't be happening soon.

At 13 I got my base station. A simple 40 channel base with a silver Eagle D104 mic. I met so many people on that radio including ( inadvertently ) my wife.
That radio is 40 years old now and I haven't turned it on in 35 years.
I've often wondered what the CB world is like these days...

I have one in my 2000 Ram. It's an old 23 channel that I bought after being stranded in a blizzard and nearly freezing to death. It's been in pretty much every daily driver I've owned at one time or another
I can tell you that hardly anyone uses them now, especially English speaking people. Actually they've become more scarce the last few years. Every one uses phones and Ipads now, even truckers.
Mine was used a lot when I was in an off road group in Arizona. It was a requirement to have a CB because phones didn't always work in the middle of nowhere.

I may just get a cheapo used one and a mag mount and run it off my cigarette lighter and see what happens one of these days. I wonder if I still have my SWR meter???

Never had a Single Side Band though. Always wanted one back in the day.

If any of you guys need this antenna piece for your factory CB, let me know... I have two that I'm sick of looking at and you can have them.

    EDIT: No longer have these!

My '78 New Yorker St Regis Coupe has the factory combo radio that still works. My power antenna however does not move on its own. I seen a '80 Cordoba on forfmjbodiesonly.com listed that has the controls on the microphone. I forgot about that feature.

I live in Burlington county NJ and it's fairly popular where i am. I think it's more active than what most people think.

I have one installed in the Polara since we act as a chase car from time to time for our local Goldwing GWRRA chapter.
Keeps us in the loop as to what the lead bike plans to do.

I think they are great, my grandfather was big into them so I was always used to them being around even though I was born after that generation. Him and his friends had them in their cars as well as base stations set up at home. I have one in the 70 Newport I am currently working on. I plan to keep it installed.

Haven’t used one in twenty years.
I might still have handheld cb and a magnet mount antenna out in the garage somewhere.

I installed a factory unit into my 1987 Shelby Z, it was a direct bolt/plug in. It's more of a nostalgic thing, don't really mess with it much. 20180606_101353.jpg 20180606_101406.jpg 20180606_101402.jpg
