Chrysler Cordoba

Hello everyone,
I am in the processe of restoring a Chrysler Cordoba from 1979
I found one frome 1977
The motor on mine is : V8 318 5.2L
And the one i bought is : V8 400 6.2
The problem is that new engine on the old cradle rubs on the oil pan and does not sit completely one the engine mounts.
Does the cradle of the 400 fit one the chassis of the 318 ???

You have got several problems.
1.) The 400 and the 318 use different transmissions and the 400 will not bolt up to the 318 transmission.
2.) The 400 engine was not offered in the Cordoba for 1979 only the 318 and 360 V-8 were fitted to that cradle. That is probably why the engine will not drop into the cradle as the 400 is wider than the 318.
3.) The exhaust and most of the accessories from the 318 use different mount points and brackets to where they also will not fit.

You would need to do a lot of work to make this conversion work and you would probably be better served to find another 318 or rebuild your existing engine.

I agree with Dave, a rebuilt 318 can be stroked to over 395 inches, and perform very well in that application. But, I am the one that is dropping a fuel injected, bored and stroked 400 (512 inches) into my 77 Doba. (yes, all of the other stuff too, rebuilt 727, strange 60 rear, plus a lot more!)

The answer to the original question is Yes.

You can swap the big block sub frame into your '79, and all will be fine.

As mentioned, the trans, exhaust, radiator, engine wire harness, etc will likely need to be swapped too.

Or find a stroked 340 or a 360.
