Is that police 440 engine a ( tuned ) one or an orig 440 and howmany horsepower did these engines have....?

Until I see documentation I will stand on that all police 440 are standard HP-440

Alan

That depends on the year.

There are two HP “Pursuit” Dodge and Plymouth engines.

The “Pursuit Commando” HP engine rated at 360 HP, and the
“Pursuit Super Commando” HP engine rated at 375 HP.

Can anyone tell me if that air cleaner and A/C pump would be the correct one for a 76 Fury A38 car with a 400HP? I just bought one that someone pulled the engine and trans out of years ago and the breather is MIA.Luckily I did get some of the engine accessories including the alternator and a bunch of the brackets so I have some pieces to work with.

Also,is that an oil filler tube behind the PS cooler at the front of the engine? If so,does fit onto a standard valve cover or is it integral with a special cover?

Whereas that may be true, with all the myths following police package cars until I see factory documentation it is just that, a myth.

The correct A/C compressor is an RV2 for factory air. The compressor installed on this vehicle is period correct for after market dealer installed A/C. Adjustable brackets on the condenser clearly indicate after market air. The oil filler tube is for the power steering and was used on some units equipped with a power steering oil cooler. The wide angle, dual snorkel air cleaner with unequal length snorkels is correct for '76 full sized cop car with a 440 engine.

When I think of "bad ***" police cruisers, I think of U-Code 440 equipped cruisers in either a '69 Polara or a '70 Fury. The Later versions, like this '76, did not have anywhere near that level of performance. This is a well preserved example of a '76 cruiser that appears solid and unmolested but I doubt it will bring that asking price, I guess time will tell.

1976 Police 440's had that kind of horsepower?

This got me thinking so I went digging in my library....

First available 440 powered B body was in 1972...no specs listed...

Filling in the gaps I turned to my more complete Plymouth collection.

Is that an add-on A/C?

Chrysler used the RV2 compressor from '61 to '79 as standard equipment. There were some variations with these compressors but they all shared the V style 2 cylinder configuration. As note previously, the cruiser has aftermarket air.

I read in one of those Mopar copcar books that one (or some? or all?) of the 75-78 B-body E86 sedans was a 132-mph car.

I agree this is not the same as the 69-70 versions (adding 15mph at 100mph is one thing, but significant wind and rolling resistance to add that 15mph from 130) - but 132 is still a respectable number. 0-60 is probably a full 2 sec off from 69-70, though.

Seller is optimistic at 14k, IMO.
