I woke up at 3:00am and thought, did I tighten the bolts from the exhaust manifold to the exhaust system? Answer No. I remember I needed to get an extension socket for one of the bolts. I went over to the leftside which gave me a bunch of fits and forgot I never went back to tighten them up.

I had never touched the exhaust system for the 13 years I have been driving Goldie. Based on the years it sat, it hasn't been touched for at least 45 years. I had planned to install dual exhaust, even bought the mufflers years ago.

I had head work done for the burn valves and installed electronic ignition and a general tune up it was purring like kitten. I finally decided to take it in to get an estimate for the dual exhaust. Ironically on way home from the shop last night the exhaust crapped out.

I was really looking forward to finally driving it this weekend. I guess that is going to wait. It blew out not far from the exhaust manifold on the right side and sounds pretty bad.

That's too bad..seems it's always something with these classics, if you like tinkering with them it's fun, but it can get tiresome too....

I got the quote for the exhaust, that made my day. $450! Running 21/2" from the exhaust manifold to the proper turn down tips. I am supplying the mufflers. I love my little town. Very reputable shop, loves working on classic cars. He did my buddy's restored 58 imperial and did a great job.

Great price from a long time shop. You won't get that from a newer shop, they have high rent or payments to make.

40+ year old exhaust, plan on it failing.

About 9 years ago my local shop did duals 2-1/2 to the muffler, 2-1/4 to the tips. It ran about $700. They supplied the mufflers. I'm guessing with increased labor cost it would be close to $1000 now.

No dude..... having to work on my work van to get to work....thats enough to pi$$ off the pope.
Working on my classic....thats how i bring my blood pressure back down. I take a couple of my Mopars to the track....they never let me down. They never seem to break.

Hey Mike, what mufflers did you buy?

DynoMax Super Turbo. I remember participating in a mufflers discussion years ago. Based on that thread I chose these mufflers. They have been sitting on a shelf for years. I will have to look up the thread and see if I can find it.

Looking over old threads hopefully my decision I made about 10 years hasn't changed. This muffler is supposed to have some fiberglass to soften the sound. The longevity of the fiberglass seems questionable.

If I were choosing now I would probably take @Big_John advice and install some Caddy mufflers
