Hi Guys,
It has been a few months since posting here, as I have been doing a lot of work on my 71 New Yorker, especially rust repairs, and engine bay wiring work.
The 72 Fury gran sedan is almost road registrable, bar a non connected speedocable and temp sensor fix.
However, recently the lights near the feet of driver and passenger( courtesy lights), have been staying on when he doors are closed.
I removed all 4 door switches, checked and cleaned each, they all looked OK. I did not however test them with a multimeter.

I also unscrewed each courtesy light holder to check and clean just as a precaution to7 see if that helped( no bulbs in either now due to battery drain from permanently on courtesy lights), and upon screwing the drivers courtesy light holder back, sparks started between holder and body, with the 20amp hazard and stop fuse immediately blowing out.
Does this sound like a problem( grounding perhaps?) with the hazard/ stop light circuit or the headlamp switch being faulty?
The courtesy lamps were functioning normally until recently.
I recently put a new hazard flasher into the car, as the previous one would not work at all when tested, and the hazards also were non functioning. The new hazard flasher I installed made the hazard system work normally again, so I am reaching out to see if anyone might have any suggested starting points to check

Thanks.

I'll bet the yellow wire that returns ground to the light from the door switches is shorted to ground somewhere. Chafed or cut insulation rubbing against the steel. I'd start looking at connections and wires in the kick panel and under the door sill first and work from there. Use the continuity function of your multimeter to check continuity to ground in some of the yellow wire runs.

Taking the time to read and answer my enquiry is very kind of you guys

I will go and check the grounds and door jamb switches today on my Fury.

I love that car, with its great big 400ci piece of American iron up front!
