Since Craigslist has seemed to be drying up for finding cars in general lately... what are people using as alternatives?

I am not a fan of Facebook etc... trying to find out where else to look for them.

    Facebook is the new Craigslist.

Ever since CL started charging $5 to run a car ad, Facebook took over.

Ebay, letgo and offer up are also places to look, but Facebook marketplace is the spot.

I agree, Craigslist is old news. Too many stories over the years of rip-offs and sleaze bags on that site. Our police station has set up an Internet sales exchange place. It is right outside the police station door with good lighting and security cameras. I know several people in town that have bought and sold things on Facebook marketplace. My wife just sold her entire set of china and silverware as we don't entertain that way. It was easy and the secure spot made it comfortable.

I agree with the market place on FB. Just use FB as a means to an end. You don't have to participate with all the other bull shit. I personally really like the messenger app along with it which allows a direct text with the seller. You can also see the seller profile which means it is much less likely to be a scam or set up.

I always felt uneasy using Craigslist.

I guess things change quickly. 4 to 5 years ago is how I found my Fury on Tempest. Tons of listings then.

I bought a used travel trailer two months ago. Found it on Facebook and all worked out. However, there is still a large a amount of fraud on that site as are others. Be careful!

When you feel "obliged" to use FB but still are not happy about giving away your whole life to whoever is willing to pay for it, as a firefox user, you can use the "Facebook Container extension", besides ofcourse minimizing all privacy settings on your FB account as well.

I have bought/sold quite a few cars over the years on craigslist... but lately.. no such luck. Never had any issues with it. And the prices seemed more realistic. Ebay and the likes always were overpriced to me.

I still pick up the Carollina Bargain Trader Magazine here, it comes out every week, costs $2 and available at most gas stations. There's a whole section dedicated to vehicles under $2,000 and I recently found there's a classic car "yard" (I won't call it junk or salvage) about an hour from me.

There's Auto Trader, and Hemmings too.

I always enjoyed browsing the huge classics section of Auto Trader when I lived in So-Cal. You could pick it up on the street anywhere - Denny's, Norm's Diner, gas stations, or the barber shop.

I don't like the marketplace due to the 100 mile search cap.
Sure, if you set up another location 200 miles away in a city you can then see that area.
with CL you can look across the entire united states. Facebook marketplace is pretty much local only.
I understand a lot of folks don't think outside the little area they live in but there is a huge continent with stuff for sale.
I got a barracuda in Alabama right now. Picked up a challenger in Oregon a few months ago. PIcked up a barracuda from Georgia beginning of this year. I'll go all over, but marketplace has stumped that for me.
I look for what i'm after and it's done very quickly as there is nothing up here in the mountains.

The things I'm looking for seem to be on both pages. B.S.ing with the seller about it, they have said that they get more hits off of FB then they do CL. Go fig?
You can search farther then that on FB, at least I have. Check this out, you familiar with "search tempest"?

search tempest is great. I have a dozen search's I do every day. Way better than the old daily deal which would put what was posted today only on CL.

I'll have to look at FB again and see if I can figure out how to search further than 100 miles.

    Just went on marketplace.
It has two options for distance. suggested radius and custom radius.
the suggested radius is less than 100 miles and the custom radius stops me at 100 miles.
I try to move that radius circle to places like wyoming or new mexico (both close to me) and it tells me there is no marketplace there. Same in the dakota's and Montana.

Can anyone tell me how to change that radius above 100 miles?

and when I look for barracuda in that radius I end up with half of the ads being for camaro's.

it won't let me do the word exclusion that CL will allow.
