I have taken this column apart years ago but I don't remember all the details. I don't want to break something!
This is a standard 3 speed column shift. How do I get the shaft out of the lower bearing? Is it just a tight fit? I believe the top bearing has a snap ring on both sides of it.

No description in the FSM Laurence? A pic would help. I'll research at the same time.

Update - page 21-13 of the 66 Chrysler FSM - not a tremendous amount of info.

They do note that the shift tube with 2nd and 3rd lever spring, retainer and nylon bushing are NOT to be disassembled. Hopefully that's not in your plans.

Once the floor plate is off the column jacket, it says that the two hexagon nuts are to be removed from the bearing housing retaining bolts, and that you lift the steering column upper bearing off the jacket.

So, if that's the bearing you're describing, then it may simply be a tight fit.
