City of Clyde is selling 1970 Dodge A500 fire truck. Sits on 2 ton chassis. Good glass, good brakes, good tires. Runs strong.....selling because front pump failed & parts are no longer available. Pump has been disconnected to allow vehicle to be driven as normal. 361 V-8. Odometer says 3,865 miles.....would guess that means 103,865 but honestly do not know for sure. Please call or text with any questions. Thank you for looking.

Cool Truck but is that a Chevy speedometer in it? Here's a dodge speedo.

I had a '70 Dodge motor home on a ton and a half chassis, it had a very similar speedometer. It was different than the standard pickup.

It could very well be 3,000 miles. I've worked on many old fire trucks. They got used very seldom in rural communities and sat most of the time except for the occasional "training" run or parade.

The question is how many hours on it? I'm sure it sat idling all the time it spent out on a call.

That's for an earlier model. The truck in the ad is a 70 so it would have the style cluster shown in the ad. I'm a little surprised it doesn't have the HD panel with the round tach and speedo being a fire truck.

I agree the mileage is almost certainly original. The hours might not even be that bad as it probably didn't go on more than a dozen calls a year.

And it's a D500 not an A500.

This will probably get stripped of its fire gear and turned into a car hauler.

That's a very good point. We had a 65 Ford F600 pumper truck in our fleet that had around 2500 miles and approx. 6500 hours of total operating time. Some of that run time was at high idle. We would perform service annually or if it was ran under load for more than 4 hrs. I think that happened once!
