Engine Compartment Color for a 1965 Plymouth Sport Fury

I am restoring a 1965 Plymouth Sport Fury that I have had for 30 years. The engine compartment on mine has always been white but in looking at pictures of other 65's, the compartment is sometimes black and sometimes the color of the car. We will be going to paint in the near future and I have the option of doing what I please but want it to remain stock. What was the stock color; color of the exterior of the car or black. Thanks!

Body color but with a blacked out rad core support outside only and enough to show through the grille.
The outer half of the fender wells are black but cannot be seen when all assembled.
