I seem to recall someone on here being able to decode fender tags... I hate to admit it, but I never really knew what that tag meant on my car. There was a recent post about someone looking to replace his fender tag and that's when I realized how cool this little piece of metal is.

So if someone here does know how to decide this thing, I'd love some help! (bonus points if you can tell me what may have been on the little metal tag at the upper right...it was painted over at some point)

Thanks!

Dean

The little metal tag is an inspection tag. Usually these will have at least one hole punched in them in some odd shape that was unique to the inspector who punched it.

There are several websites that have fender tag decoders:
www.stockmopar.com/mopar-fender-tag-decoder.php?
or
www.maxwedge.com/articles/documentation.php

Both of these sites require you to enter your vin number to proceed. The stock mopar site is the better of these two.

Your fender tag decoded: hope it matches for your car.

S-3 auto temp air conditioning(sorry), X-1 tinted glass-all, Y-2 white convertible top.
Line 3 1-4 sill moldings, 3-0 body belt moldings, 7-8 wheel lip moldings,AX-1 2.76 rear axle ratio
M6B vinyl buckets-light blue, WW-1 white paint, S-C blue horizontal stripe.
Line 4 1968 Chrysler 300 2 dr convertible, 440V-8 4bbl, build date October27, 1967

Thank you for that information... definitely my car. It has obviously been painted as it is now light blue, and the interior must have also been redone at some point because it is navy blue.

I don't believe it has the sentinel lighting... how would I look for that?
Also, the windows aren't tinted...only the top portion of the windshield has any tint. But the car does carry a salvage title, so maybe something happened to the windows way back when.

thank you again for this information! (and nice car you got there too!)

You'd have a day/night sensor on the top of your dash and some sort of control near your headlight switch. Here's the one on my '67 Imp.

Does the car have a power antenna?

what does the 'dead kid' switch at right do? machine guns out the front bumper?

oil slick???
Lol! It actually says REAR AIR but since I put 2 speakers back there and removed the rear defogger Motor I have been trying to think of something to use that switch for. I was thinking the release switch for 10lbs of roofing nails but I like the way you think too!

Does the car have a power antenna?

I does not currently, but I do think there was an antenna motor in one of the parts boxes.

There definitely are no vestiges of the sentenial lighting system (on the dash or in the box).

The tags that are attached by Phillips head screws seem to always be different size screwheads,to me that is odd. Any idea why?or have I just seen oddballs maybe I'm the oddball.

Well I can only speak for mine, and it is riveted in place. My engine bay was painted at some point and the paint build up makes it looks like screws at first glance.
