am thinking this is a late production model ? when did they stop building for the start of the new year production ?

It is considered a late build date. They generally built cars 2 weeks into july. Then the last 2 weeks were used to change over stampings and other procedures for building the new years model. In general new cars were being built on August 1st.

Model year 1967 SPDs at the Jefferson plant go until at least 706 and in the 330,000+ VIN range. So the car is question is a later build car relative to the model year.

The scheduled Production Date (SPD) is an estimated date and typically unrelated to actual production. The car could have been built days or weeks before or after the SPD.

During that era, SPDs typically end during the first or second week of July depending on the plant. What happened for MY 1967 changed by the early to mid 70's rolled around when SPDs run later into July and August for the model year.

Pilot cars for the next year's models can have mid July SPDs indicating a quick turn around from year to year.

Many early cars have 801 SPDs but that in no way guarantees cars were actually built on that day. Unless and until factory records surface, there is no way to know when any car of that era was built.
