Posting this because facebook groups suck for information retention and searchability, this thread should hopefully show up when the google spider does its thing. Mainly for aussie 65-68 dodge phoenix owners although it might apply to other years too.
As you guys are probably aware, the inner tie rods, lower ball joints, and idler and pitman arms are all Australia-specific, while US versions can be bought, this will throw the steering geometry off. Others that have tried have reported that the turning circle increases by a ridiculous amount.
For inner tie rods, Hemi Performance sell one for 65-68 dodge phoenixes here - these are just moog ES713s which are for Fords.
By all appearances, the shape is almost exactly identical as the originals, right down to the curve in the arm, BUT the ball joint stud that the castle nut goes on to is juuust too small for the holes in the steering arm. Base of these studs is ~13.14mm, the originals are ~15.9mm. As a result, these will have side-to-side play even when the nut is cranked all the way down.
I guess if you're a machinist or fabricator, you could make some sort of shim or sleeve to get it to work, otherwise for everyone else, we'll just have to recondition the existing ones, either via polymer injection, or complete overhaul.
There's a bloke up in northern NSW who goes by the moniker of The Ball Joint Doctor, who does the polymer injection for 275 bucks per joint. In Sydney, Prime Automotive Repairs in Marrickville can overhaul them for 200. They use lathes and mills to cut it apart and overhaul it, as they are of the opinion that polymer injections aren't the right way to do it - though I suspect they're thinking of the cheapo dodgy jobs, as the guy up in northern NSW has serious equipment to do polymer injections properly, which is probably also why it costs a bit more going to him. Both options can refurbish our inner tie rods and lower ball joints, as well as pitman and idler arms.
Hemi Performance have at least offered a refund since the ES713s didn't fit, turns out the review form has an overly strict profanity filter of some sorts - I wonder how many other people have tried to warn others that this won't fit, only to find that they can't. Maybe they didn't want people telling others that they were just Moog ES713s that could be got for much cheaper elsewhere. Wonder if my review will get approved though...
