I'm in analysis paralysis!

Using Ratech tool i have pinion depth at 2.631 (etched is 2.633) backlash at .008.

What say you?

Which one is "Coast:" and "Pulling"?
The bottom picture is the accel side and it looks pretty good. It is a little light, work it back and forth a few more times with pressure on it so the pattern shows up better but it looks like it is in the center of the tooth in an oval pattern. New gears backlash should be between .005 to .008. I would run it.

convex is always Driven, Concave is always coast.

Cool beans. That Ratech tool is pretty slick!

BTW, side note, do NOT run Yukon/US Standard gears, 3 sets over the last 2 months were crap (Howled) this set is Motive and had them REM processed, so the pattern seemed to be a little harder to read.

Is it the metallury or the surface finish on the teeth? Which can be easily noticed with normal vision or possibly a magnifying glass?

Just curious,
