The Bagger 288...never heard of it.

She ain't fast, can't shoot a spitwad, but at 14,000 tons it might qualify as "heavy metal". Anybody know anything about this machine?

was watching Aliens (second movie) on cable. wondered ALL these years what the APC was based on?

Obviously a prop, but had to have been built on a real vehicle of some sort. It was big, sounded like a diesel, and had production parts NO hollywood studio would ever have made -- even for big-budget films.

Meet the Hunslet ATT77 in "Aliens"

This was an aircraft towing tug that once used for towing Boeing 747s at Heathrow Airport, it weighed 72 tons and was stripped down to about 28 tons, the bodywork was done by metalworkers in Slough, near Pinewood Studios where most of the movie was made.

Schaffelradbagger - Greman for bucket wheel excavator. Can move a lot of dirt, but development costs are great, flexibility is poor, tremendous amout of conveyors, hate to see what happens when it gets stuck, and they do! I worked on several projects where we used truck shovel to ecavate and transport to a crusher/conveyor belt transfer. Much more flexible, Quite a bit lower cost.

Commanding Officer, Naval Air Facility El Centro, joined Santa for the lighting of the F-14A BuNo 159856.

What better way for a Naval Air Facility to say Happy Holidays!!!

Last night parade was an amazing event where they hosted 1,200 guests and had 450 participants in 29 floats and marching groups!

Fairchild Junction - Allegheny 2-6-6-6 H-8 #1601

One source that identified this as "Allegheny 2-6-6-6 H-8 #1601". THe number on the locomotive in the picture though is different. Might be another Allegheny?

Either way, she's a big 'un. #1601 is at the Henry Ford Museum .. seen it many times. A wonder but at the junction of new technology -- the diesel electrics -- and new demands obsoleted the Alleghenys in about a decade

what is the paper strapped to there legs?
That is the airport diagram. It show the runways, taxiways and parking areas on the airport. The pilot will use that to ensure that they exit the runway and taxi via how they are directed by the controllers.
