Hello from Austria!

My kids go to a wonderful school & I don't think the teachers need the kids to be medicated much. Medication is an unfortunate shortcut....
A slap upside the head was all the medicine I needed. This crap where every little personality trait is now a disorder is bull crap. Meds, meds, meds,.... another conspiracy by the Socialism nanny state.

Well, guess I need to pipe in here. I seen lots of kids who've had positive results from Ritalin. The trick is not to over medicate so that they are zombies. A dose should be just enough so they can maintain "their own" focus abilities (rather than use the drug as a crutch). I agree however, to many parents out there want to medicate kids when all they really need is a little discipline. However, there are those who really do benefit from the drug. As long as they are not over medicated.

Stan, my middle daughter couldnt hold a thought in fifth grade. Towards the end of the year she went to some doctors, and got some medication. This was in May.... The school wanted to hold her back, I fought to promote her and see what happened with her in the sixth grade. She never failed a class. Not a straight A student and she worked for all her grades but the point is she was able to do it, without the medication she couldnt ......... Now? She is off the medication and holds a decent job. It was right for her.

That's what happens when one makes a carte blanche statement. You are shown that there are shades of grade between black and white.

I fought to promote her...
The point is, you simply didn't medicate her, walk away, and then blame the system. Good for you!!
The meds AND the active involvement of you was the key to her success.
