Its my understanding a lot of people have hinge problems with these cars. My door plate broke and the pin / roller it rides on was warn almost in 1/2.

I found this kit on EBAY (see pic) but I did not want to pay $125.00 for it. I welded my plate back together and ground it back to shape. After a little research I found some new pins at a blacksmith bolt and rivet supply and sleeves that would fit on Amazon. The pins are about .020 smaller than the factory so they are not press fit but a small tack weld it it will hold for another 100,000 miles I'm in the whole repair about $20.00 and $12.00 of that is shipping.

On mine only the pin was broken. At the moment a 1/4" bolt is in there working diligently. When the door is removed I'll repair it properly - I like your idea. I'm not paying $125 for that, just like I didn't pay $360 for the heat riser rebuilding kit.
