how rare are cornering lights on newports?

I have a junkyard here that has a 67 newport with cornering lights. Im considering swapping my fenders out for those. I think the lenses were still good. I have the turn signal cam for cornering lights already. Im just wondering if this was a rare option or not? also...how effective are they?

They are kinda cool at night, I think they work better (you can see them) in the country. I don't think they help a lot, but it's a nice touch. If you have the parts and want to, go for it.

They DO give you some extra light when turning, and are pretty neat. If the fender swap isn't an enormous headache, I'd say go for it.

I dont know how much they will want for the fenders...but the swap would be simple as long as I do it before paint.

I'll have to see if a nice lens improves the light that I see in my Monaco.

Don’t get me wrong I love them on my Imperial but don’t expect them to help you turn corners in the dark, they’re strictly ornamental. You’d better be looking for pedestrians approaching on the sidewalks that you’ll intersect while turning. Although these lights may make your intentions better seen by people on the sidewalks but it seems most modern people don’t even know what a turn signal is anymore let alone a cornering light...

Our 67 Newport Custom had them. Probably more common on Customs than a base Newport.
As I recall they were part of the Custom's sill molding.

Good Morning, while we're on the subject of corning lights. Mine (1969 Monaco) only come on when I activate the directional. is that proper or should there be a running light also? Thanks

Whew, that saves me worrying . I like my 68 Ny, when you turn-on the running lights it looks neat

I put them on my first 67 that I owned back in the 80's. I just made a template from the donor car and cut them into my fenders. The wires were hanging behind the fender

I think on New Yorkers (for '67 anyway) the bezel for the cornering lights is "already there" (see photo), and the cornering light is just wired into the turn signal.

Yep, the lower lamp would be the corner lamp if ordered.

My 72 Newport has them & it’s a royal (entry level model) guess it all depended on what the original owner was in the mood to check off for options. I know you have a slab side but I’ve never seen another Newport fusie with them so I guess they were more reserved for the flagships.
