Here are a few pictures of the kick plate trim I restored and installed on the passenger side of my 69 sport fury convertible this morning. The trim is off My parts car,it was in ok shape when I started on it and I think it turned out well . What do you guys think? The trim I took off the car is sitting just below the new trim for comparison . Now for the drivers side AFTER I have a beer.

WOW! that looks awesome. That Beer is well deserved. Looking forward to seeing the driver's side next.

That looks great. Wish mine had that on it... and nice timing too. I needed a good shot of where to position my new Pentastar. No hole so I gotta drill one.

Very nice job - congratulations! The ones on my 1969 Sport Fury need the same attention. What do the clips look like that hold them on, and what is the best way to take them off without damaging the clips? Thanks for paving the way!

How? Tell me how?
Well it’s a bit of a job but if I can do it any one can do it. First I remove the aluminum trim rub it down with that gritty hand cleaner that smells like oranges to remove tar and road crap . Then straighten it and tap out any small dints with a punch and chisel set and some small pieces of wood. Then i sand the trim to remove the anodized coating starting with 800 grit automotive sandpaper then again with 1500 grit and again with 2000 grit. Then I use a metal polishing wheel and the white wax stick and shine it up. Then mount it back on the car and go over it with a gold, brass and silver polish. After that I go over it with a paint sealant. It’s not a fast process but the results are great. It took about 3 days and 18 beer.

The first two pictures are from the fender edge by the door the second two pictures are from the top of the kick plate trim up 8 3/4” X 2 1/8

I have several parts cars and I have found there are 2 styles of clips doing the exact same job . Top set get screwed on The bottom set slides onto an existing pin welded on the kick plate so I’m unsure what you will have. In my Opinion The screw on ones work the best because they do not spin or move when you are trying to put the trim back on the car. My car did not come with the screw on style so I removed the lineup pin on the back of them so I did not have to drill two holes in my kickplate only one for the mounting screw and that held the clip very solid. I guess it goes without saying I reused all of the clips I had extra from my parts cars incase I broke one or two. There will be five screws holding the trim on underneath the car remove those screws lift the trim straight up the side of the car it should come right off

Thank you for the excellent tips. Great to know - all of it!

Here’s some pictures of the back of the trim and where the clips would hold onto the trim . It’s very easy to take the trim off and have a look if you want to and easy to put back on. If you did that you would know if you need extra clips or not

 Good job!! But I see you use the typical before/after pictures - the before is grungy/dirty and the after is nicely polished:poke: :)

Can or bottle? I find that it's easier to take pics if you're holding a bottle.

Do you know if the process is any quicker if I use Jack Daniels in lieu of beer ?? Just wondering ....
