Hey Guys, My 1962 Dodge Custom 880, 361ci, automatic has a metal, in-line ATF filter. It has to be factory because it has fittings at each end that the return line fastens to. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Any clue as to what is inside this filter? Is it paper type material or possibly wire mesh/screen or other non-paper material? My bandsaw saw mill has a 10 micron glass bead hydraulic filter. I guess it could be something similar. If it is not paper maybe I could flush it out and re-use it!? I tried, in vain, to find a new one but had no luck except for a much smaller WIX plastic outside, paper inside filter with "slip-on" connections with a couple of short hoses and four clamps. Bob

I believe this is what you are looking for.

The parts book lists this as a "strainer", it also lists a "filter" that it says is attached to the trans. pan, I can't say that I have ever seen one attached to the pan, and the parts book doesn't show it. I also don't know what is inside of them.
Here is one on eBay that he has cross referenced to the Chrysler "filter" number, not the "strainer" number. Also note that in the Chrysler picture above the one that is inline is called a "filter". http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Mop...e-Filter-/280470532213?_trksid=p2054897.l4275
Can you still read the part number on the one you took off of the car ?

Beautiful picture! Thanks! No, I cannot read a part number on the old filter. The one in the picture you sent looks like the one on my car. The one the guy has for sale on e-bay looks like the right one, too. I don't know how you found it but I'm glad you did. I'm tempted to reuse the old one but will probably bite the bullet and buy a new one at an outrageous price! Cheaper than a rebuild! Can I find the the Chrysler Passenger Car Parts Catalog on-line, on a download? Thanks for all the great information, I really appreciate it!! Bob

Yo Bob. What do you consider an outrageous price for an NOS-STILL IN THE FACTORY BOX in line filter fer yer '62? I paid $20.00 + shipping for one 25 yearz ago and never used it. Not sure why? Jer

Jer, Are you saying you would sell it for $20.00 plus shipping or are you trying to tell me something else? Twenty dollars seems like a heck of a price, 25 years, ago but it is what it is. If you want to sell it for $20.00, what would the shipping be? :sSig_thanks: Bob

Yes, I saw those. Actually, the shipping of the $25.00 was $16.11. I don't know how he came up with that shipping price. It shouldn't cost more than $6 or $7 to ship it but some people like to make money off both the item and the shipping. :sSig_thanks: Bob

I think he was trying to tell you something else. :poke:

I don't like getting reamed on shipping either. :soapbox:

Like I said. $15 .. actually $14.84 but I rounded up. But maybe it costs more to ship to Kansas. ~ $40.0 to get what you need for a 52 year old car doesn't sound crazy to me.

The factory installed filters were black. The aftermarket filters are orange.

Greasemonkeyman, Rust has taken its toll and the part number is not legible, but have received part numbers, including Chrysler, Fram and Wix, from another source and am going to get one from my local O'Reilly's for less than the guy on flea-bay! It is also available from NAPA and CarQuest. Thanks to everyone who tried to help! Bob

But you're not me! $40.00 for a little piece of tin with some paper inside and a couple of fittings is outrageous - in my opinion. I guess I bought wholesale tooo long. I know what the mark-up is on things. I can buy it at my local O'Reilly's for less than that, now that I have obtained the WIX, Fram and CarQuest part numbers. It was unnecessary to make a copy of the flea-bay ad. I guess I looked at so many ads I remembered the wrong shipping price. $14.84 is still too much for shipping. It shouldn't cost more than $6 -$7 to ship. But I didn't get on this site to argue with people or to be told what is or is not outrageous, I was trying to find parts for my 1962 Dodge and share my interest in vintage MoPar cars. I also have some rebuilt TorqueFlite transmissions and other MoPar parts I was hoping to share with other MoPar guys (and/or gals). Bob

Jer, I agree with you about the orange color! Let me know if/when you find it and how much, including shipping, and let me know. Thanks! Bob

Al-righty then

Please allow me to retort.

But you're not me!

So very true :)

$40.00 for a little piece of tin with some paper inside and a couple of fittings is outrageous - in my opinion.

You are entitled to your opinions which is just as well because in my opinion they are worth less than that little orange filter, over priced as it may be.

I guess I bought wholesale tooo long. I know what the mark-up is on things.

When was this? Never mind I really do not care.

I can buy it at my local O'Reilly's for less than that, now that I have obtained the WIX, Fram and CarQuest part numbers.

Thanks to many people on this forum spending time to spoon feed you while you cherry pick who's time spent you deem worthy of common decency.

It was unnecessary to make a copy of the flea-bay ad.

To tell you the truth I really don't regret wasting those extra few minutes doing that at all since I had already wasted several precious minutes of my life attempting to assist you already, only for you to dismiss that help and felt it necessary to incorrectly tell me I was off by a buck .11! I'm good.

I guess I looked at so many ads I remembered the wrong shipping price.

Yeah I guess

$14.84 is still too much for shipping.

Not going to bother

It shouldn't cost more than $6 -$7 to ship.

Whatever. I'm not going into it. The difference is 7-8 dollars based on your proclamation

But I didn't get on this site to argue with people

Your lack of appreciation of peoples time and and willingness to help and dismissive attitude seem to point to the contrary.

or to be told what is or is not outrageous,

Did I really do that?

I was trying to find parts for my 1962 Dodge and share my interest in vintage MoPar cars.

Great start

I also have some rebuilt TorqueFlite transmissions and other MoPar parts I was hoping to share with other MoPar guys (and/or gals).

GLWS

Bob

Here's the pertinent comments that resulted in your response which I felt was little over the top, so I adjusted accordingly. I hope you don't mind.

Have a good day :)

The one in the link above is $25 BIN price plus $15 shipping. 10 left, 81 sold

Or there's this one with the exact same picture that is apparently sold out for $98.88 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Inline-Auto...Imperial-/321068731725?_trksid=p2054897.l5670

What? Are you for real? This is not a site for your petty, pathetic arguing with people who are trying to use it! GET COUNSILING!! You can write your meaningless response to yourself. I have had enough of your psychotic ranting and will not revisit this site again!

Gee, that went well...

:sSig_noob:

Man...one guy has 3500+ posts vs one guy with 16....I'm new here as well and have been on many car forums....there IS a certain pecking order in this arena, my suggestion to OP would be to ask questions, absord the info and not make waves if he needs "help" with his car. I am a former Pontaic guy, finding out I know little to nothing about Mopars, let alone C bodies...in every forum, there seems to always be a few guys that rub some people the wrong way, but they are usually the most helpful as well....just need to grow some thicker skin until you become acclimated to it...just my 2¢...Kel
