ISO. Early 60-70 318 engine

Looking for a 318 4bbl engine to drop in ready to run
C body fury

There are two different engines in this time frame 60-66 was a 318 "Poly", 67 and up had 318 LA series engine. 60-61 have a different crank shaft to accommodate the older power flight transmission, so if looking for and engine you need to be more specific as to which C-Body you plan to put it in as these do not all readily interchange.

The correct 318 for your application would be a 2BBL LA series engine. Chrysler stopped making the 4BBL versions in the run of of Poly series engines (1962) This continues with the LA series engines. The 318 became an entry engine with emphasis on economy rather than performance. These later engines had restrictive porting and exhaust systems that were not really appropriate for a more performance oriented 4BBL carb. You can update to the very late "Magnum" series heads and exhausts with the appropriate higher compression pistons, but this will put you well out of the "drop in" category. If you are going to spend a bunch of money updating a 318 engine, you might be better served installing a 360 which will give you additional horsepower without spending a small fortune in upgrades.

There a subtle differences, but none that will keep you from bolting up a '71-'76 360 to your existing transmission. The LA engines starting in 1972 began to be significantly de-tuned to comply with more stringent EPA emission standards. Is your existing engine beyond salvage?
