Well,
Two steps forward, three steps back!!

Had a very nice and fine trunk sheet metal replacement job done on my "68 Fury ll. No more dust sneaking through dust holes, all sealed up with a Rhino-liner type equivalent product. Thick metal. All good.

Only problem is when I tried to throw in the new gas tank I realized that there's nobody home for the J-bolts to attach

!!

As you can see from the photo(s) they cut the existing trunk floor out pretty much right where I suppose the J-bolts would normally attach.

We've got all sorts of jury-rig ideas running around but before we get too carried away, it would be SUPER helpful if anyone has a photo of where exactly the gas tank strap J-bolts attach to the under side of a '68 Fury sedan.
Much appreciated!!

You can see the remains in your picture, two raised, reinforced channels that would have been longer, straight down. You could get longer j bolt's and drill what's left of them, or weld on some extensions.

I’ll get you some pics. This is how I left my shop on Saturday.

the measurement is from the top of what’s left of the hanger bracket that was carelessly removed on your car.

Yes, good idea- we should be able to re-drill what's left and with the excellent info. we got here from DetMatt should be able to extend the J-bolts to fit.
thanks.

Good ideas provided. Move that fuel line before welding. You probably already know that or just bolt the extensions on.
