You guys have been a great wealth of knowledge. I appreciate it. I was on a VW forum for many years and it turned into a lot of grab, slap and tickle which is ok to a point....anyways..... So I'm going to start cleaning up the neglected engine bay. Not a huge fan of the chrome and foam Chinese air filter. Anyone have a spare stock one they would like to ditch? I have no idea the value of some of this stuff so if this is like a one year only $500 unit then chrome and foam it is for now... Its a 383 with 2 barrel holley. From the research I did it looks like this:
oh, well looking on ebay is discouraging....is there another cheaper option like a year no one wants that will fit and look sort of the same?
If you,r looking for original look for a single snorkel air cleaner , that was on your car...... And cheaper then the dual snorkels for the 4bbl
Ah, ok I got the info here: https://www.nicksgarage.com/aircleaner.htm Assuming its not accurate? This is all new to me.
There,s also a difference in the baseplate....... smaller (2bbl) and bigger hole(4bbl) for the carb . For the look if you like the dual snorkel you can use it.
383 2bbl? You didn't say what year your car is but from your research this would be the period correct for the 2 barrel. .
Thanks everyone. With some help we figured it it had a 4 barrel base but it's a 2 barrel Holley. It needs the crankcase vent tube (for 68) Got one on the way. Next question....does it get a fancy sticker like this or is it plain? Still need some window cranks and seat knobs though.....
Plain, that sticker is for a different air cleaner. That's made for an air cleaner with a larger center indent.
