I am getting ready to start working on my 69 Sport fury vert (just the planning stage) and would like to get the opinions of the group. Should I get the new roof and rear glass installed first and be worried about the new white roof getting damaged / ruined during the body & paint work or wait until after the car is painted and hope that the new paint does not get damaged while having the new roof put on. I am thinking of the latter as I know that covering up the new paint job is a less risky scenario than trying to keep a new roof covered during the body work and paint. :sSig_thanks:

I must say I agree with the paint first however I figured I would still ask just in case there is something that I may have overlooked in my hast in making this most delicate decision. I feel it's always good to get additional input.

I went with the roof first on my Challenger. It wasn't that bad since I was doing the body and paint and was extra careful. Only problem was uncovering unforeseen body work needed and still had to disassemble part of the roof to get at it. Yeah, paint first!

Paint first ......!!!!!!
When we painted Jazbelle I masked the top myself thinking ... no one else would be a careful as me.
Once painted and the masking removed there were still a couple of bleed through areas of red paint on the white top.
Dust created during the prep will make a mess of a convertible top too.

A new top was installed about 6 months later with no effect on the paint.

Paint first so the top frame can be detailed and painted and so body work can be done everywhere it needs to be w/o getting dust all over the top

paint first. the best way to paint would be to loosen the trim sticks at the rear of the top and leave a space to remove the aluminum and chrome trim. rust seems to like to hide under the molding and along the rain gutter inside. it's best to get that all out or the rust stains will come out on your new paint.

Yes & thank you, All trim, interior and glass will be 100 % removed with the exception of maybe the windshield.
