mr. fix it
Old Man with a Hat
Having owned Tricia for almost a full 6 years now I was mandated by my better half to improve the radio.
Being off of work for a couple of months now I couldn’t justify the cost of spending the kind of $$$ on a true refitted stock radio so I asked here for some recommendations before dropping the hammer on a system
I happened to come across the Autosound Systems web site and viewed their videos
The systems ranged from $160 to $500
I decided to try the entry level model at $160 that seems to offer a lot other than high watt output being a max of 160 watts
I thought I could send it back if not happy.
It has a CD/mp3/USB/AM/FM/BT and support for a power antenna as well which I already have.
Well I had a friend offer to help out and we got it hooked up today since I’m pretty gimped up these days
I wasn’t too worried about cutting up the metal dash since a previous hack artist had done their best to chop up a hole to fit the Sears version of the Craig R3 radio cassette player in the past.
I am very pleased with the sound quality so far
It has a decent retro style as well which is what I really wanted to have.
Here’s some pics of the front speakers setup I constructed and it turned out great if I do say so myself
I have to further modify the front dash trim
I’ll post a video of the player later
For the front speakers my buddy reached in and with a few cuss words removed the grille and I was able to do my handy work and create a dual speaker plate, paint, mount and then add some speaker cloth to slow down the accumulation of any dust.
It’s actually landscaping cloth and it worked out great!
I hot glued it in on the edges so it won’t fall down
I used computer electrical connection for ease of unplugging speakers if needed in the future
I hate when every wire is hard wired or electric taped up
I still have to finish installing the rear 6x9” speakers and tidy things up
I’m happy with the results
It will be a month or so before the real road sound test.
