Hi there,
I am tearing down my 318 poly and found a steel rod in the water jacket on the right cylinder head.
Can't say I am familiar enough with the poly's to say if this is normal.:edgy:

the left bank doesn't have this rod..

Any opinions out there?

I just tore apart a 383 and it had the same thing.

Piece of coat hanger type steel wire that was used to get some of the sand left over from casting. The person cleaning/prepping the heads on the assembly line probably broke off a little farther in the head and it ended up there.

Grab it with a pair of pliers and get it out.

okay, I guess they didn't have time to fish the rods out during assembly.
Thanks!
