It's been close to 3 years since anything has been done to it but my buddy let me know that they had gotten to work on "The Dog" so I stopped by to see it this morning. I did 95% of the metal work on this one, the last of which I actually did at my buddies collision shop until I ran out of time to commit to it at that location. At that point I just asked him to finish the bodywork and get it painted for me. It's really looking good and he says it should be painted next month and I couldn't be more excited! :eek:s_dancing2::eek:s_dancing2::eek:s_dancing2:

This is a very unusual Road Runner which unfortunately I have no tags, sheets or original drivetrain for. I bought it as a rolling chassis and appears to have mainly been a race car since the mid '70s and it was quite a mess when I bought it 7 years ago. since I basically drilled this thing almost entirely apart at the spot welds I was able to determine a lot about what it was originally. It's a 383 4 spd post coupe with no power steering or power brakes but it did have air conditioning which means it has the 26" radiator and tinted glass and it was originally LL1 turquoise with black interior. I also think it had the decor package because it had the wide tin trim across the trunk and stainless B pillar covers. The only metal that's original to the car is the roof, rear underseat floorpan, the rocker assemblies, the B pillars down to the rockers, the front frame rails, the inner fender aprons and the radiator core support. I back halved the car with a rustfree rear clip from the NM desert so it has oem rear rails, trunk floor and wheelhouses while the quarters, trunk floor extensions and gutters are all AMD along with all the interior pans. I also replaced the entire cowl from the top of the rockers to the base of the windshield A pillar with a non ac (sorry Stan) unit from another car.
it will live on as a turquoise 383 4 spd. I picked up a matching engine and trans that were removed from another '68 RR and this time it'll have a Six Barrel set up under a '69 fresh air hood with an original set of ductwork. The interior will be a white over black bench with no headrests and if I can find the front wheels to complete the set it'll roll on vintage Daisy wheels.
Here are a couple of earlier pics from some of the serious metal work, they are from after the back half transplant when I was test fitting the quarters and trunk lid.

Matt that is extraordinary. I always appreciate looking at work done by someone who so obviously knows what they are doing. BTW it will look great in that colour. Be sure to keep the updates coming.

I'll throw my hat into that ring. I just dropped $500 on body and primers I still have to go back and buy basecoat and clear I'm shooting for around memorial day weekend for paint.

When I stripped the paint off that was on it when I bought it I found a very kool mid '70's paint scheme. It was a heavy metallic silver/orange fade with tangerine orange pinstripes and this great graphic on the doors, it's been known as the "JUNKYARD DOG" from that point. It was originally raced in the Jacksonville area at Gator Raceway/Pecan Park and I've actually talked to several people that knew the car and the guy that owned it, Mike Pigeon, but I've never been able to locate Mike. Don Robertson, who is the track manager at Gainsville worked at Gator at the time and said he remembered the car along with Mike and a few other guys that worked and raced at the long defunct Motorsports park. I always hoped I could find out more about the car or even find some photos of the car from back in the day but had no luck.

Your paint choice would be different I guess if you found more Details about the paint of the car during the drag days. Think I'd duplicate that look in that case either.

I detest those wheels. This is all I can think of when I see those wheels.
