Outside corner lamps

Just a question about lights. My original '69 300 vert had front side lights, (see picture).(red)
My current '69 300 vert has only reflectors, (see picture). (Gold)
Why do some have lights and some dont? Are the lights able to replace the reflectors? (Same size?)

Federal law for 1968 called for the side markers. In 1968, the markers were illuminated. In 1969, some change in the law spec'd a reflector and not a light. In 1970, the law was a light.

So, 1969 cars got a reflector.

Your original car had cornering lights. The light would illuminate when the turn signal was on.

I was just reading that 69 cars made before jan 69 got reflectors and after jan got cornering lamps. Sound right?

Cornering lights were an option, in 69 the marker lights were just reflectors.
