Question on Tie Rods

#1 were the tie rod sleeves originally painted or coated? Mine look too good to have been bare metal.

Hi. i dont know the correct answer - I had just installed a new set. mine appear to have some sort of coating.

I always remembered mine as kind of a silvery bare metal look(‘68).Almost a clear zinc coating. Mine had no trace of paint.

Mine ( '65 originals ) had remnants of black paint. It looked like my entire drag link and tierod ends had been assembled and shot as there was some paint on the rubber boots.

Most of the factory steering components were not painted, although like a lot of things Mopar, it could have varied from one plant to another. Replacement factory sleeves were bare metal with a light coating of oil on them. I suspect that was cutting fluid residue.
