Helping my friend, he have -68 Imp vert and rear axle wheel bearings needs replacing.
-68 FSM says that wheel bearing end play should be between .013 - .023 inch but -69 FSM says that it should be. 008 - .018 inch.
Any idea what's difference between -68 and -69 8 3/4 axle and why are this end play different?
Thanks in advance,
Mika

They may have just changed the spec (obviously tightening bearing clearance) for a number of reasons. I'll bet that with that given the changes to make the cars quieter and ride better in '69, tightening the bearing clearance .005" make have made the rear a little more quiet. It may also have to do with longevity.

But, just set it at .013 to .018 and then you'll hit both specs.

I usually aim for about .010...but usually end up slightly higher....but I do my end play by feel. ;) I have hooked up a dial indicator and checked my settings and they are usually pretty much spot on.
