Well the weather in BC has turned nice, so time to take the 300 convertible out, went to put the top down in the garage, and blew the rear window into smithereens! Original Glass tinted window made it through 5 plus decades but now gone. Don't know what the hell happened, nothing in the trunk or in the top boot, just glass all over the fuc&%$# place. I am sick! Now the search for a replacement. Anyone have any suggestions on where to start, or what other models had the same rear window? Would you replace with a plastic one or a lexan one or something else if a glass one cannot be found? Any hints would be appreciated!

BTW, if any body needs any parts for their rear window, I have a box of very small ones.

Murray park would be my first call. The glass should interchange with all C-bodies and Imperials from 1967 through 1968.

What feels like a million years ago I bought a replacement top and glass window from YEAR ONE for my ‘68 300. This was the days before their internet site when their catalogs had a parts crossover reference. You could try giving them a call.

But as Detmatt notes above, give Murray a call. If he doesn’t have the part, he will surely know where to get it.

So sorry this happened to you.

Thanks Gentlemen for your wisdom. I have contacted Murray, Marty, AMS Obsolete, Desert Valley, Wildcat, couple of others, running down a lead on one from Facebook Forum. Will try Year One, but not holding my breath. Had a thought last night though, why not have one cut from Lexan, or similar product? Worked for all of our race cars many years ago, and you know it ain't breaking!

I actually have located the original specs for that rear glass OEM. Gonna call up the supplier for Lexan and see if they can tap it into their CNC machine. Cam

Is it flat or curved glass?

If it's flat, any good glass shop could cut one from flat safety glass like windshields are made from. They would need an accurate template of course.

Here's a thought, give these guys a call. They are supplying replacement tops with new glass. I wouldn't try the lexan as it will scratch easily.

Chrysler Full Size, 1967-68 Newport, 300, Fury, Polara Glass Window Section (#TN151)

FWIW, I've seen two rear windows shatter for no reason. One was my Dad's brand new '74 Satellite on the first cold day of winter. He just backed it out of the garage and the wwindow shattered. The other was my spare '65 Barracuda rear window. That was in my shed for a few years and I walked in and there was glass everywhere. No reason that I can think of for it to break.

Have that glass. Don't think it's tinted
Tint film solves that problem if it's not.

If flat glass is correct for the application, safety glass will give you a durable solution to your problem cheaply, even if it's just temporary, while you source a correct one, if you prefer that.

Thanks all! John, I have been speaking to these guys already, thought it was a decent deal for top and window. In a discussion with a member here who has the window. Cam

the convert back window can explode from stress as the top ages and contracts,
my 70 300's rear window exploded as i undid the passenger side clamp.
i got a new top and rear window installed here in victoria.

a used back glass is already bonded to the existing surrounding material in order to install it.
i dont know that you can re-bond glass to a new surround;
the shop that i use ( friends who i trust and who work on some very expensive restos) say
the problem is that the rear window and its surrounding material is cut to work with the top
that is on the car.......... so a used 1 wont fit right and could shatter
good luck, hope you can make a used 1 work

Is the surround glued to the top, or zippered into a special feature sewn in when the top was made?

Unfortunately, the surround is glued to the glass along the top and down the sides. Upon reading up on this, and listening to other members stories and opinions, it would seem to me that it would be almost impossible to have a used window installed in the existing top, and I may very well have to have a new top and window made as a unit. I don't know how anyone could reasonably removed 1000 small shards of glass that are glued to the fabric along the edges of the glass. I have no idea who did the top that I have, it was before I owned the car, but the top maker sewed in a 1 inch flap about 4 inches from the zipper, and glued it to the window across the top and down the sides. It is a contiguous piece, so I guess it could be taken apart and resewn, but that seems likely to be tough to make the window fit properly. Have to do some more thinking on this.
