Resurrection of my 1970 Chrysler 300 Convertible

I didn't need to replace the center channel, so the repair is mainly on the corners.

Interesting cleat marks from the factory helped me line up the new parts.

Next, it was time to start on the left side quarter and door.

It didn't look too bad, until a couple of taps with the body hammer revealed the results of more 1990's repairs.

When I see this fall out, it's worse than a mouse nest. Screen doors and globs of old bondo....

Oh no! More metal pop riveted and then covered in bondo. Did no one own a MIG welder back then??

The inner quarter from the '73 NYB is almost a perfect match, except it was missing one bead roll.

A minor repair to the corner and it was ready to go.

Door jamb typical rust repair. Again, a solid piece of the '73 NYB fits perfectly.

Work on the inner front fenders involved a lot of undercoat removal, then sand blasting with glass from the mobile blast unit.

Finally, 3 coats of Krylon semi-flat.

I was running out time for the season, so I hired these guys to blast all of the big panels. They used glass and water with a rust inhibitor. Four hours to blast the hood, deck lid, fenders, front and rear valance and inner fenders, done right in my driveway. Saved me 6months of work with chemicals and a hand grinder.

Hopefully, we'll have two EB7 1970 300 'verts at Carlisle this year. I just realized how close the VINs of our two cars are: mine is CM27U0C250282 (SBD of June 9, 1970) while yours is CM27T0C251780 (SBD of June 11, 1970).

Yes, I imagine they were line mates. Yours went to Maryland, and I believe mine started out in Florida, but I will never know for sure.

As for Carlisle, it’s looking like 2023 for this beast. I’m looking at two knee replacement in the first half of the year, so I’ll be sidelined until the summer. I’m afraid this might be the last update for a while..

Thank you! I didn't know much when I started, but with FCBO, the FSM and the internet, you can do just about anything with these cars!
