Roadtrip tools and spare parts

I think I would be more concerned about the title than if the car will make it....
Be no fun to fly out and hear " As soon as I find it I will mail it" or find out it is
being held at some title loan place...
. I was just going through paperwork looking for the title. Haven't located it yet .

If there is still time how about shipping your tools and parts out ahead of you via fedex??? I've done this several time when I've had to work on something out of state. Works out better than farting around with the mopes in the airports.

Hey guys I'm about a week away from flying to Philadelphia and driving back to the Chicagoland area in a 1973 Imperial.

For Sale - 73 Imperial daily driver

I'm placing a parts order and am open for suggestions on tools or what to include in my emergency parts kit. Will be bringing a spare fuel pump and ICM for sure.
What else do you guys think...AAA membership? Haha
"my tool bag today consists of my Cell Phone and my VISA, WIN WIN, Jer"
Jer has it right... the critical item is a CC. I just accept that while on a road trip, if I have a major issue, I can/will get the car into secure storage and deal with it in my time.

Allow at least one extra day to be part of your trip, if necessary. Greyhound, uber and airfare websites can help you figure out the rest if you decide to abort the mission.

No matter how much planning you do ahead of time, Murphy's law will assure that any problems run off script and you'll have to figure crap out on the fly.

Best advice I can offer, don't expect anyone to stock parts, have knowledge or even want to work on your car. Odds are, whatever you pack, it won't be what you need on the road.

Zip ties, duct tape, and hopes and prayers.

That sounds like a great adventure. Flying out to get a car and road tripping it home. Get your basic kit, sockets and screwdrivers. Also I’d pick up a cheap voltmeter in case you run into some gremlins along the way.

Good luck!

Zip ties, duct tape, one of those multi-bit screwdrivers, a pair of vise grips and a 6" Cresent wrench. Along with that, a cell phone, AAA card and a credit card that has some "room" on it.

If you have Hagerty insurance, there's a policy rider for long distance, flat bed tows.. or get the premium AAA if you want.

Good luck and take a lot of pics so we can enjoy the journey too.

Thank you all very much for the helpful advice, I sincerely appreciate it. Will certainly take lots of pics and most likely be uploading them along the way. A longtime friend of mine is flying along...no matter what happens we are going to laugh and make the best of it

In my experience with c body's. They love being driven. If it has been taken care of as it seems it has, you should be golden. I used the turnpike to go to Dave's in Jersey and it was pretty expensive but as stated, its kinda out there. I didn't really see any parts stores, or stores in general that I can recall. Just the rest areas and fuel stations. Have a blast. Can't wait to see the imperial and wagon!

A new dash cam and a couple go-pro type cameras ought to be enough for video duties

Paul be safe...I will be watching for the uploads of your adventure. Here's the pic of the day I got Big Red delivered from Illinois last July ...open trailer in background ($750 for shipping to Mpls). Brakes (booster) failed coming off trailer. Limped it onto mother in laws driveway and into garage with maybe 5% brake power.

Looks like there could be some snow out there...thats ok I consider it a challenge. Grew up on a farm along a gravel road. Started powersliding gocarts as a child and have driven all sorts of machinery all the way up to duece an a halfs and armored personel carriers...I love driving.
Big Red looks great, there's not an angle I don't like

So is this trip done...?
Is there another Fusey Imperial in Illinois now....?
Inquiring minds wanna know..:steering:

Flight to Philadelphia leaves on Friday morning...am looking forward to an authentic Philly cheese steak! But we should be back in Illinois sometime Saturday evening as long as things go smoothly.

Lol...its supposed to be snowing in Illinois on Sat also...this just makes things more memorable, I'm ready for whatever I need to do :steering:
