I need another set of wheelz like I need ah heart transplant but, Can't Mother make any money on pickupz unless they have 4 doorz and 4 wheel drive? Haz the entire country forgotten why pickupz were designed in the first place? Tell me it ain't so Sir? Jer

But I gotta have that leather interior and 20" touch screen!
Even if I can't park the thing in my garage.

With all the 2-door 2WD Dodge/Ram trucks I see as municipal work trucks in Omaha/Council Bluffs (including water/gas/electrical utilities) I can't imagine the demand drying up, at least for commercial customers. At the local Menards, you can rent a Ram 1500 Classic for 'round-the-house hauling.

We haven’t been told that yet Jer but as of today there is no 2 door new style 2020 model in the product plan. The Classic could be ordered as a Reg Cab 2wd in 2019 but they haven’t announced a 2020 Classic model....yet

This article is full of misinformation unfortunately for example

“The 1500 Classic remains one of the few full-size pickups on sale in the US with a manual transmission – something both GM and Ford have ceased offering.”

Hasn’t been a manual 1500 for years only the HD trucks could be has as a manual and that ended with the 2018 model.

You will be able to get a manual in the Gladiator so that is a bonus.

The Dakota replacement will be modeled after the full size truck and likely no Reg Cab

I miss being able to buy a roll up window, rubber floor, single cab 3/4 ton with a stick and leaf springs.

You know a real truck. Not a soccer mom special.

I rolled up beside az it turned out a 2010 single cab 1500 ah couple dayz ago and we had a short chat after I complemented him on such a sweet 1/2 ton hauler. . His parting wordz were "if you want one get it now, it iz no more after this year". Almost makes me wanna start hunting for a replacement for my Turbo charged and Inter-cooled '83 Plymouth GT Scamp 1/2 ton hauler, lol. FYI Pal. I tried hauling home a fully dressed 440 I had re-built at freeway speed and found out that the stock 2.2L 84 HP didn't like that almost 700 engine on it's back, soooo an upgrade waz in order. Thank You for your input Graham. As usual, Knowledgeable and very helpful. Jer

So you have to buy a truck, 3/4 ton and above, not a overgrown, incomplete, 4wd minivan. Who would have thought?

Problem with light-duty pickup trucks is that they are substituting for the old "family CAR" of old. Hauling capability, seats 5 people, creature comforts, possible V-8 power, AND rear wheel drive. I noticed this first with the Chevy Tahoes, whose owners wanted something RWD rather than FWD and could afford the fuel for them. BTAIM.

ONE thing I've seen more of lately is a short bed RAm 1500 with Hemi power (evidenced by the rear bumper and exhaust tips). Ought to be a nice ride!

I saw some sales figures for a year or so ago of F-150s. The vast majority were 4-doors, tailed by the extended cab 2-doors and finally the single cab models (usually 8' bed length). Several years ago, there were some Silverado 1500 short bed single cabs on the lots. Usually with mid-level and above options on them. But were a bit pricey.

I suspect there will always be "work truck" level trucks, with rubber floor mats and limited luxury options. Even with 8' beds . . . what might be termed "a proper pickup truck", like we had in 1970.

As for manual transmissions? GM hasn't built a manual trans pickup truck since the later '80s. When they had issues with the hydraulic clutch bending actuator pushrods. They claimed no need for manual trans with lock-up torque converters. Might also have been additional certification costs, too, for emissions? The HD pickups had the Allison automatic transmission option.

The "automatic trans only" situation might have also generated the wimpy "park assist brake" rather than REAL parking brakes?

We have a single cab 8' bed pickup truck at work. It has a more traditional feel to it than the 4-dr I drive daily, at work. Completely different orientations, between them.

To me, those Ram 1500 short-bed Hemis just look RIGHT! Not high off the ground, either, at stock ride height! Might need some air bags under the rear for hauling?

    Enjoy!

GM had manual trans in half tons until Atleast 2007, I drove quite a few, a friend had a nice little short step side 2wd 4.8L 5 speed truck.

    The Shorty Hemi's are cool.

My friend had a 13, single, Shorty, hemi, 2wd, work truck trim, bench seat, wind up windows, rubber floors, A/C, 3.92 gears, tow package, limited slip diff.

I had this one in the shop a few weeks ago. 15 in nearly the same optioning as Duncan's

My solution: Recently I went out shopping for a basic 2dr longbed. What a joke. So I had my truck "made back to new*.
I picked it up yesterday. I guess it was about 1/8th the cost.
